Sustainable Biodiversity Governance confronts a broad range of challenges. Current relevant concepts often provide insufficient decision support for integrating the environmental, social and economic pillars towards sustainable development of biodiversity. This seminar will present in-depth problem analyses as well as several new concepts and examples of their practical applications to overcome this shortcoming. Biological and social stocks and flows will be respectively discussed in terms of capital and their carrying capacity. The presentation will deal with intra- and intergenerational issues, and geographically range from global to sub-national aspects. Thematically, biodiversity governance will be addressed in its broadest sense, including the topics of wild species conservation, water governance, forestry management, climate change policy, de-growth strategies, regionalization, Public Participation, Payments for Ecosystem Services, and sustainable products and services such as in the construction sector. This multidisciplinary presentation will cover the subject from both, social and natural sciences, and with political, legal, economic and biological perspectives.
